Sons of Italy raise $100,000 for CITEL
St. -Boniface Hospital Foundation expresses its deepest appreciation to the Order of Sons of Italy, Garibaldi Lodge for its $100,000 donation to the Canadian Italian Tissue Engineering Laboratory (CITEL) Campaign. The cheque was presented to the Foundation this past Saturday, March 16, at the Sons of Italy 27th Annual Gala.
The Canada Italy Tissue Engineering Laboratory (CITEL) is a partnership between St. Boniface Hospital and the University of Roma Tor Vergata in Rome, Italy, which will promote the exchange of information and collaboration between researchers from the two institutes. Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. CITEL aims to change that by applying regenerative cardiology technology developed in Rome, to heart failure models currently being examined at St. Boniface Hospital. The $100,000 donation from the Sons of Italy will help establish a laboratory at St.Boniface Hospital for the two cardiac research teams.
