St. Boniface Hospital Research’s RBC Youth BIOlab officially opens!
St. Boniface Hospital Research (SBHR), together with premier Greg Selinger and representatives from the Royal Bank of Canada, has officially opened a state-of-the-art science laboratory that will bring hands-on science education to Manitoba students. The 3,000-square-foot RBC Youth BIOLab will help students cultivate a passion for science through interactive activities and experiments that complement the provincial science curriculum.
The new facility is based on SBHR’s commitment to educational outreach and community partnerships. Since 2005, SBHR has partnered with the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) in a biomedical outreach program called It’s All about Me, dedicated to improving science and health literacy among Manitoba students. The program has reached over 30,000 students to date from kindergarten to grade 12.
The RBC Youth BIOlab Jeunesse teaching laboratory was built with support from Manitoba Education, RBC, and the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation and opened its doors to students in Spring 2013. The program is delivered in partnership with Manitoba school divisions and with the support of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to connect St. Boniface Hospital and Research Centre to classroom learning.
