University of Manitoba
Dr. Morag Graham (University of Guelph, 2000) is the Section Chief of Genomics at the National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) in Winnipeg, and cross-appointed adjunct with the University of Manitoba’s Department of Medical Microbiology. Dr. Graham provides genomics infrastructure and oversight for infectious disease reference testing, diagnostics, surveillance and applied research at NML, contributing to numerous high-profile public health investigations (2008 Listeriosis; 2009 H1N1 Pandemic; 2010 Haiti Cholera; 2013 H5N1). Dr. Graham actively works to transition genomics and microbial informatics from the research lab into the front lines of public health response for modernized outbreak detection. Dr. Graham also collaborates on numerous investigations and projects that combine genomics (based on next-generation sequencing) with epidemiology―for example to research evolutionary changes in pathogen populations or identify genetic biomarkers for incorporation into novel rapid detection devices. Dr. Graham is currently supporting microbiome investigations with Dr. Michelle Alfa’s team.
