St. Boniface Research’s Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences today announced the ‘Kalwant Dhalla Fund’. Kalwant (Ken) Singh Dhalla, who had just recently celebrated 33 years of service with the institute, the University of Manitoba and St. Boniface Research, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010. The fund will support an award in Dhalla’s name for excellence in technical support of the Institute. The ICS Advisory Council is working on the terms of reference for the award; details will be forthcoming.

Those who wish to contribute to this fund can write their cheques to ‘St. Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation (re: Kalwant Dhalla Fund)’. These cheques can either be dropped of in the ICS Office, or mailed directly to the Foundation*. A tax receipt will be issued by the Foundation.

Born on December 9, 1940 in Ghanie Ke Bangar, Punjab, India, Kalwant Singh Dhalla lived a fulfilling life as a leader of his community and a great friend to many. Kalwant passed away at Concordia Hospital with his family at his bedside. He is remembered by his wife Sudesh Dhalla; his children, Navtej and Happy Dhalla, Deepa and Ashok Singal, Mona and Rajat Sethi, Jarnail and Arvinder Dhalla, Sunita and Pawan Bagga, Manoj and Prakash Verma, Hansjot Dhalla, along with his 14 grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his elder brother Dr. Naranjan Dhalla and extended family. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 7 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. at 3:00 p.m., with religious services that followed at Singh Sabha Gurudwara, on Sturgeon Road.
