The Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education(CCAE) recently awarded the University of Manitoba’s ResearchLIFE magazine with the Prix D’Excellence Gold Medal for “Best Magazine under $100,000: Research-Intensive Institutions”. The award is based on the two issues published in 2009.
Reviewers commented on the “superior photography”, design and layout, and “writing that draws the reader in.” Recognition for the award goes to editor Janine Harasymchuk; writers Sean Moore and Lindsay Fagundes; with photography contributions by Tamara Nathaniel and Doug Barber. Graphic design by done by Suzanne Braun at Relish Design Studios Ltd.
Bill Peters, Communications and Media Services Manager at St. Boniface Hospital Research, was also recognized for contributing a photo illustration of a train crossing a popsicle stick bridge – which he designed and built for the photo. The Summer, 2009 issue featured a related article focused on bridge design.

ResearchLIFE was launched in January 2009. Two issues are published per year (January & July). The magazine highlights the quest for knowledge that artists, engineers, scholars, scientists and students at the University of Manitoba explore every day.
