Two St. Boniface Hospital faculty received special honours at the 4th Cuba-Canada International Symposium on the Heart, held recently in Holguin, Cuba:
Dr. Naranjan Dhalla, distinguished professor of physiology, University of Manitoba, and director of cardiovascular developments, St. Boniface Hospital Research, and Dr. Grant Pierce, professor of physiology and pharmacology, University of Manitoba and Executive Director of Research at St. Boniface Hospital, received Special Distinction Awards from Mariana Grajales University of Medicine from Holguín, Cuba, for Lifetime Achievements in Cardiovascular Sciences Worldwide. Dhalla, Executive Director of the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences (IACS), was also an honoured guest of the Symposium.
The province of Holguin, Cuba hosted the 4th Cuba-Canada International Symposium on the Heart from January 24 to 28, with the participation of more than one hundred renowned Cuban and foreign scientists. The event, held at Hotel Playa Pesquero, is considered among the most important meetings in Cuba in 2013, in the specialties of Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery and Research. The Symposium was organized by the V. I. Lenin hospital in Holguin, the provincial Health Department (Cuba), St.Boniface Hospital Research, and the Cuban Society of Cardiology.
