Congratulations to medical student Steve Melnyk, (Jassal Laboratory), winner of two awards at the 54th Annual National Student Research Forum in Galveston, Texas: one for best radiology oral presentation, and one for overall first place oral presentation. The event was held April 25 – 26, 2013.

Melnyk presented research from the CHIRP study (Cardiac hemodynamic imaging and remodeling in pregnancy). The objective of the CHIRP Study is to determine the range of normal structural and functional changes of the heart during a healthy pregnancy by employing both cardiac echocardiography and MRI.

The National Student Research Forum is held annually on the University of Texas Medical Branch campus in Galveston, Texas, and is organized and run by students for the discussion of student research papers in a scientific atmosphere.
