NOVEMBER 6, 2013 (WINNIPEG, MB) – St. Boniface Hospital Foundation’s 2013 Radiothon of Hope and Healing, presented by the Vickar Automotive Group, raised an unprecedented $131,900 for patient care and medical research at St. Boniface Hospital this past Sunday, November 3. The $131,900 is a record total for the 12th annual event, which was broadcast live from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in St. Boniface Hospital’s Everett Atrium on 680 CJOB.
680 CJOB hosts Geoff Currier, Greg Mackling, Brett Megarry, Kelly Moore, and Dahlia Kurtz brought inspiring stories to Radiothon listeners from St. Boniface Hospital staff, researchers, and grateful patients whose lives have been changed by the compassionate care they received at St. Boniface Hospital.
“This year we asked Manitobans to “be a part of something life changing” and they certainly responded to the challenge!” said Chuck LaFlèche, President & CEO, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. “We are very grateful to each and every person who took the time to make a donation.”
Generous Winnipeggers lined up outside the McDonald’s at 77 Goulet St. for the inaugural McDonald’s Radiothon of Hope and Healing Drive Thru. Everyone who made a donation at the McDonald’s Goulet St. location received a free coffee and cookie for their support.
Radiothon listeners also had the opportunity to send a rose to a St. Boniface Hospital patient with a minimum $10 donation, as part of the Canada Safeway Brighten Their Day Flower Campaign. Over 500 roses were delivered throughout St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday by St. Boniface Hospital Foundation board members, staff and volunteers from the Vickar Automotive Group.
For the fourth consecutive year, Vickar Automotive Group was the event’s Presenting Sponsor. Employees from multiple car dealerships volunteered their time answering phones, accepting donations, and delivering flowers, and raised an additional $3,000 prior to the event in support of St. Boniface Hospital.
“The entire team at Vickar Automotive Group is extremely proud to have been a part of this life-changing event that will have a positive impact on the lives of many in our community.” said Larry Vickar, President of Vickar Automotive Group, and Chair of St. Boniface Hospital Foundation’s Radiothon of Hope and Healing.
“This momentous achievement would not have been possible without the support of our many donors, sponsors, the CJOB team, Radiothon guests and volunteers,” concluded LaFlèche. “Thank you to everyone involved for making a difference in the health of all Manitobans.”
