Over 30 students and teachers from many of Manitoba’s northern communities visited the RBC Youth BIOLab Jeunesse today, as part of the Manitoba First Nation Advanced Science Symposium and mentorship program.

Hosted by resident science teacher Steve Jones, students learned about heart function, and worked in groups while dissecting pig hearts.

The Symposium/mentorship program is coordinated by the Manitoba First Nation Education Resource Centre, which provides the province’s leading education, administration, technology, language and culture services to First Nations schools in Manitoba. Students enrolled in the program came from communities including Peguis, Sandy Bay, Wasagamack, Red Sucker Lake, Jackhead, Split Lake, Nelson House, Sapotaweyak and Opaskwayak Cree Nations.
