St. Boniface Hospital Research’s Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences hosted students from schools in Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council communities as well as the Children of the Earth School in Winnipeg, who came by to meet Dr. Ferid Murad (Nobel Prize Winner for Medicine 1998), in Winnipeg to receive the Robert Beamish Leadership award as part of the 16th Annual Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences Awards. Dr. Murad is cited for his work with nitroglycerine and nitric oxide that results in the relaxation of the blood-vessels, by-product of which would be the drug known as Viagra.
