Frank & Jeanne Plett Endowed Studentship Grants were awarded to each of the following students within CCARM:

  • Chamali Kodikara & Denice Embrador, both supervised by Dr. Champa Wijekoon, Plant Bioactives
  • Chelsey Walchuk and Jaspal Singh Mudharh, both supervised by Dr. Miyoung Suh, Nutrition and Neurological Diseases

And the TD Bank Group Graduate Student Award was presented to Shanella Senadhiraja, also supervised by Dr. Miyoung Suh.


Seyedeh Sadaf Asfa, PhD graduate student under Dr. Rene Douville, was recently recognized for academic achievement and demonstrated research potential with the prestigious University of Manitoba Alumni Associate Graduate Fellowship (UMAAGF).

Congratulations as well to Simran Dhaliwal, MSc student in Dr. Henry Dunn’s lab, who was awarded the Clarence Bogardus Sharpe Memorial Scholarship, recognizing her as the highest-ranked applicant among University of Manitoba Fellowship applicants. In addition, Simran has also been honored with the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship Award.


Also from Dunn’s lab, is Kaden Baskerville, MSc student who recently secured first place in the U of M Undergraduate Research Showcase for outstanding research poster and presentation to the judges.

And from Dr. Dhingra’s lab, congratulations to Ina Siwach, a BSc Med student who clinched multiple awards, including the prestigious Joe Doupe Honorary Presenter Award, earning her the opportunity to present her research work at the National Student Research Forum in Galveston, Texas. Additionally, Ina has been honored with the Oxford University Press Neurosciences Book Prize and the MMCF Class of 1959 Travel Award, Manitoba Neurosciences Network Prize.

Chamali Kodikara, MSc student under Dr. Champa Wijekoon, finished in first place for the student oral presentation at the Cardio Metabolic Research Network workshop.

Bradley Feltham, under Dr. Miyoung Suh, took the Gold Medal in the PhD poster competition at CHRIM’s Child Health Research Days in mid-November.
