The Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences Graduate Students Association (FHNS GSA) at the University of Manitoba, in collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Agri-food Research in Health and Medicine (CCARM), hosted a dynamic Scientific Research Exchange event on December 1, 2023.

Event Highlights:

Morning Session: The event kicked off with a visit to Cereals Canada, a national organization dedicated to advancing Canada’s cereal grains value chain.

Thirty graduate students gained valuable insights into trade, science, and sustainability initiatives within the industry.

Emphasis was placed on fostering relationships and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Afternoon Session: The group then visited CCARM, where they were warmly welcomed by Dr. Thomas Netticadan and Dr. Christina Rosell.

A networking lunch provided opportunities for casual discussions and community-building among attendees.

The afternoon included a guided tour of CCARM’s cutting-edge facilities, where students explored health-related benefits in food and derived components.

Engaging discussions with researchers deepened participants’ understanding of the intersection of agriculture, food, and health.

Acknowledgments: The FHNS GSA extends gratitude to CCARM trainee representatives and members for their invaluable assistance. Special thanks to Chamali Kodikara, President, FHNS GSA, and CCARM Assistant Trainee Representative who initiated this idea, and to Dr. Thomas Netticadan for his hospitality and Julie Schoffner for helping coordinate the day’s activities. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of experiential learning in shaping future leaders in food and human nutritional sciences.
