This past year has been marked by outstanding achievements from students across various labs, demonstrating excellence in research, academic performance, and scholarly contributions.

Pranav Mishra, PhD student, received the Deepak and Ratna Bose Prize, awarded by the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Manitoba; the Faculty of Graduate Studies Research Completion Scholarship, University of Manitoba; the Multidisciplinary Health Research Experience (MHRE) Recognition Award for ranking as 2nd overall instructor and the Deer Lodge Hospital Staff Association Memorial Fund Award.

Sikta Chattopadhyaya, PhD student received the Pawan K Singal Graduate Fellowship in Cardiovascular Sciences, and the Health Sciences Graduate Students Association Graduate Student Excellence Award.

Danah Al-Hattab, PhD student was awarded the Grant Pierce Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Physiology from the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology, University of Manitoba.

Abhay Srivastava, Postdoctoral Fellow was awarded the Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) Postdoctoral Poster Award.

Keshav Narayan, PhD student received the Manitoba Medical Service Foundation Poster Award and Dr. Ed Kroeger Award.

Anqi Guan, a summer student in the lab, distinguished herself through a series of remarkable achievements in various Manitoba-wide school competitions. At the Winnipeg School Division Science Fair, she won a Gold medal, the Canadian Mennonite University’s Experimental Design Award, the Best in Category Award for Disease and Illness (Senior), the Award of Excellence in STEAM, and was recognized for having the Most Outstanding Project at the senior level. Additionally, she earned the honor of being Manitoba’s delegate to the Canada-Wide Science Fair. At the Manitoba Schools Science Symposium, she secured a Gold medal and the Best Biological Science Project award. Her impressive performance culminated in winning a Bronze medal at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Ottawa.


Besher Abualanaz received the ICS/BMO Scholarships PhD Award.


Two Vanier scholars from this lab, Emily Hyde and Daniel Schwade Araujo, were recently selected to attend the prestigious ZonMw Gender and Health Knowledge Program in Rotterdam, Netherlands, supported by ZonMw Fellowships. This program offers Gender in Research fellowships for early-career researchers to participate in the Gender and Health course and workshops during the Erasmus Summer Programme from August 19-23, 2024. Out of 20 fellowships awarded, it is notable that the group secured two.


Tim Rozovsky, Master’s student has earned the Faculty of Graduate Studies Research Completion Scholarship; the 2024-2025 CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship – Master (CGS-M); the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba: Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship; the 2024 CancerCare Manitoba Research Day: 1st place award in the fundamental/translational sciences oral presentation competitionl; and the MSHRF Poster Competition: Health Sciences Graduate Students’ Association (HSGSA) Poster Award (2024-2025).

Akshi Malik, PhD student received the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation Research Award for Cardiovascular Research at the Manitoba Students Health Research Forum (MSHRF).


Molly Crandall, PhD student received the HSGSA Poster Award at the MSHRF Poster Competition.


Ruzzell Flores received the ICS/BMO Scholarships MSc Award.


Shiqi Huang, PhD student received 1st place (tie) in Session IV: Nutrition at the 2nd International Trainee Symposium in Agri-Food, Nutrition, and Health (January 2024), oral presentation competition.
