Dr. Michael Czubryt, Executive Director, St. Boniface Hospital Research, Principal Investigator at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology at UM, is the recipient of the 2024 Dr. Ed Kroeger Mentorship Award.

Throughout his career, Dr. Czubryt has mentored nearly 60 students, ranging from high school science fair participants to Master’s and doctoral students. He has also served on advisory committees for an additional 27 Master’s and 18 PhD students and been an external examiner for six doctoral students at other universities. His involvement in studentship and awards committees for graduate students and postdocs, and his role as a former Associate Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, further highlight his dedication to mentorship.

The student-governed Dr. Ed Kroeger Mentorship Award is presented by the Health Sciences Graduate Student Association to honor outstanding mentorship, teaching, and research. Named after Dr. Edwin A. Kroeger, a distinguished Professor of Physiology and Pathophysiology at the Max Rady College of Medicine and Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies in Medicine (1987-2017), this award celebrates his exceptional mentorship. Dr. Kroeger provided an environment where students could reach their fullest potential, offering wisdom, guidance, and patience, and serving as an aspirational figure in both research and community engagement.
