Dr. Mohammed Moghadasian research career began with a focus on the cardiovascular benefits of phytosterols—natural compounds found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts. These substances help regulate blood cholesterol levels, specifically lowering “bad” cholesterol while leaving “good” cholesterol unaffected, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease and strokes. His team’s significant findings led to their recognition as the first Canadian research group in this area. Today, his research investigates the health benefits and mechanisms of action for other food-derived substances, including omega-3 fats.
