A series of significant recognitions and awards were received by researchers and students from St. Boniface Hospital Research at the recent Canadian Nutrition Society (CNS) Annual Meeting. These accolades highlight the exceptional contributions and leadership within the field of nutrition.

Dr. Carla Taylor, Principal Investigator, Metabolic Nutrition, Canadian Centre for Agri-food Research in Health and Medicine, has been awarded the prestigious Earle Willard McHenry Award for Distinguished Service in Nutrition. This highly respected annual award acknowledges outstanding service in the field of nutrition by a Canadian or Canadian-based individual. Dr. Taylor was recognized for her merit in teaching, her ability to inspire students and colleagues, her leadership within professional associations that have driven progress in nutrition, her administrative and material support towards the development of outstanding nutrition and nutritionally-oriented programs, and her impactful research achievements.

Dr. Harold Aukema, Principal Investigator, Nutrition and Lipid Mediators, Canadian Centre for Agri-food Research in Health and Medicine, was formally inducted as a CNS Fellow at the meeting. The “CNS-SCN Fellow” designation is an exclusive professional distinction that recognizes exceptional service to both the Canadian Nutrition Society and the broader nutrition profession, both within Canada and globally. This honour is bestowed upon a CNS member by their peers in recognition of outstanding contributions to nutrition science and/or practice.

Anne Manson, a University of Manitoba PhD student from Dr. Harold Aukema’s lab, earned two awards at the CNS meeting:

Manson received the Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism (CNS society journal) Abstract Award. This highly competitive award is given to the best abstract with a primary focus on the application of physiology, nutrition, and metabolism to the study of human health, physical activity, or fitness. Her abstract was selected from over 250 submissions by students.

In addition, Manson was one of only eight students from all submitted abstracts to receive the Nutrition Graduate Student and Trainee Award / Christine Gagnon Memorial Travel Award. This honour provided her with the opportunity to deliver an oral presentation in a dedicated session at the CNS annual meeting.

Congratulations on these well-deserved recognitions!
