Dr. Ruchira Nandasiri, Research Associate from Dr. Miyoung Suh’s lab, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow Award from the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at the University of Manitoba.
The award recognizes exceptional postdoctoral researchers whose innovative research programs, contributions to knowledge creation, and commitment to mentorship exemplify academic excellence. Dr. Nandasiri received the award in the Natural Sciences and Engineering category.
Dr. Nandasiri’s research focuses on identifying and characterizing health-promoting compounds in foods, developing innovative food processing technologies, and evaluating dietary strategies to help prevent and manage chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiometabolic disorders.
Through collaborations with academic, industry, healthcare, and Indigenous partners, his research has advanced understanding of the health benefits of functional foods and agricultural products while supporting sustainable approaches to food production and processing. His work combines advanced analytical techniques with preclinical and translational research models to improve the nutritional quality and health impacts of food systems.
In addition to his research accomplishments, Dr. Nandasiri has demonstrated a strong commitment to mentorship and leadership by supporting undergraduate and graduate trainees, organizing national and international research symposia, and contributing to scientific and community organizations.
