St. Boniface Hospital Research is pleased to recognize the appointment of Dr. Shelley Zieroth as the Heart & Stroke, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, and Research Manitoba Chair in Women’s Clinical Heart Health Research.
Dr. Zieroth is a clinician-scientist with Clinical Research and the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences (ICS) at St. Boniface Hospital Research, as well as a Professor in the College of Medicine, Max Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba.
The new Chair will provide leadership in developing a Women’s Heart Care program in Manitoba, advancing research into women’s cardiovascular health, and supporting the translation of research discoveries and best practices into clinical care.
Women have historically been underrepresented in cardiovascular research, and the Chair will help address important gaps in understanding and treating heart disease in women. The initiative will also foster collaboration among researchers and clinicians in Manitoba, across Canada and internationally.
Dr. Zieroth has been part of St. Boniface Hospital’s cardiology community since 2006, when she became Director of the Heart Function Clinics. Her research focuses on heart failure and cardio-kidney-metabolic interactions.
“I am honoured to be appointed to this Chair position and to continue advancing research that addresses the unique cardiovascular health needs of women,” said Dr. Zieroth. “Through collaboration, innovation and research excellence, we have an opportunity to improve care and outcomes for women living with heart disease today and for generations to come.”
The Chair is supported through a partnership between Heart & Stroke, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation and Research Manitoba.
