R.O. Burrell Lab

The R.O. Burrell Surgical Education and Research Facility is primarily used by the St. Boniface Hospital in conjunction with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. A full complement of staff provides support service in the Surgical Facility as well as in pre-clinical research studies performed at the Centre.

Surgical Residents familiarize themselves with various surgical equipment during their training to prepare for the hospital Operating Rooms. Surgical models are used to train the basics of suture knot tying, creating ligatures and incision closure. Surgical Residents are also given exposure to Laparoscopic training devices.

The surgical suites are outfitted with similar equipment as the operating rooms in the hospital. The facility also uses live feed from the O.R. to a lecture theatre and conference room to assist in the training program.
