Land and Water Acknowledgement

St. Boniface Hospital Research is located on Treaty 1 Territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Inninewak, Anishininewak, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

As a hospital-based research enterprise serving diverse communities, we also recognize Inuit as one of the three distinct Indigenous Peoples of Canada, and we are committed to providing culturally respectful health research and creating spaces that honour Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and connections to the land.

We acknowledge that our water is sourced from Treaty 3 Territory, including Shoal Lake 40 First Nation. We recognize that Shoal Lake 40 First Nation has experienced disproportionate harm because of colonial decisions, and that Shoal Lake 39 has also been impacted by these decisions.

We respect the treaties made on these territories and acknowledge not only the harms and injustices of the past, but also the ongoing harms of colonial systems that continue to affect Indigenous Peoples and communities today.

Recognizing that we are all Treaty people, we share responsibilities under Treaty and dedicate our efforts toward a more loving and compassionate world, as we move forward together in the spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.

We acknowledge that this commitment must be more than words — it must be reflected in how we care for people and the land, how we build relationships, and how we change our systems and practices to ensure accountability.
